For your supreme viewing delight is this vintage Ludwig 5x14 10 lug No. 231 Super Ludwig DeLuxe Black Beauty snare drum from the mid to late 1920s. It's in beautiful condition and tunes up with great ease. This heavy two-piece black nickel over brass shell with welded back bearing edges features the 10 point floral engraving that first appeared in the 1926 catalog. It has some really lovely aging on the hand engraved shell and hardware. The bottom hoop is stamped "Super Ludwig". All of the clips are intact with no cracks and all of the rods and lugs are original. The Super-Ludwig snare control is fully functional with original extension arm. There is one small mystery hole that has been filled with a matching screw and the butt side of the strainer is an era correct 1920s nickel replacement as shown. There are no other extra holes or modifications of any kind. Modern heads fit well which are currently installed. If you are an enthusiast of these drums, you will recognize that this model very rarely becomes available with this extent of original parts and only one very small extra hole. This is truly a stunning piece of drum history that would equally be at home amongst the finest of collections, studios, and stages. Enjoy!
