1920s Ludwig No. 309 Super Speed Bass Drum Pedal Regular Model Nickel
1920s Ludwig No. 309 Super Speed Bass Drum Pedal Regular Model Nickel
Condition: Vintage
For your viewing pleasure is this rare vintage Ludwig Super Speed regular model bass drum pedal from the late 1920s. These were the epitome of speed in their day, owed in part to the beater shaft rotating on ball bearings which was a massive innovation at the time. These pedals also feature Ludwig's double holder that could be used for two beaters or allowed the drummer to choose their tone based on where they placed the beater, dead center for more staccato sound or off-center for a more resonant tone similar to concert bass drums of the day. This antique pedal is in great condition with some oxidation on the housing, hoop bracket, and beater shaft as shown. This rare version has the spring installed with an inverted rocker assembly instead of the enclosed compression spring typically found on Super Speed pedals throughout the late 20s and early 1930s. It presents well, is fully functional, and would be at home in the finest collections. Enjoy!
